Hi, I noticed that too. Not good enough. Also the Sunshine Exchange (101 Devonshire rd) has been very congested for the last 2 months. Used to get 13 MBps, now down to 1 MBps during peak times at night.

Well THAT’s interesting! We haven’t heard about the re-build yet!

The footbridge across Anderson Rd will be welcomed, but we need BIKE access across both sets of rail tracks. So far the safest option (for example, with kids) is through the underpass at the railway station – not fun when a peak afternoon train has just arrived! Plus of course there won’t BE an underpass soon enough. Anyway, have already had this discussion with council – just needed to spurt it yet again!

Thanks Tangerine! Good to have confirmation cracks aren’t RRL related – I heard since that the owners (not sure who they are) are very keen to maintain the heritage buildings and are going to pull down and rebuild that whole facade…..

Yes, the old heritage listed footbridge will be replaced. I’ve been fearful that ‘whizz bang’ means a huge, hulking eye-sore. RRL were consulting with community stakeholders and council but have not advised of any progress in the new footbridge design for months.

There will also be a new footbridge built over Anderson Road from near the end of King Edward Avenue across to the North-west corner of the HV McKay Gardens.

About the RRL: picked up a couple of bits of interesting info when I met an engineer for the project at a party. The old footbridge over the railway at Devonshire Rd is to be replaced by a new “whizz bang” one. Lifts will be installed at either end. And did you know there is a “Sunshine Orchid” that grows nowhere else in the world? It grows somewhere along the railway line and its preservation had to be factored into the works.

I work in the Harvester Centre behind that scaffolding! Many engineers have visited to inspect, and I’ve spoken to a couple. The cracks in the wall began about a year ago, so not a result of the Regional Rail Link project. Most likely a damaged drain somewhere, causing water to soften the earth under that corner of the building. Thankfully the cracks haven’t widened since the gantry went up.

Hi CM – I suspect that part of the reason they are going to VCAT/Magistrates Court is because a demolition permit hadn’t been granted……

We might also ask why a demolition permit was granted so quickly after the fire?
